We're gonna be doing a lot of talking and we know, that's the sharing part, we know that you're gonna be listening a great deal, but we also are hoping that you're gonna absorb the really good useful parts of this that apply to you and that you'll be able to then funnel that down into discovery and application of process addiction, specifically gambling, and drug and alcohol addiction, and other mental illness issues with teens in Nevada today. And that over to your right is where we're gonna focus, youth and alcohol, tobacco and other drugs, and gambling, wraparound services that are available to them, as well as some prevention. Just a few notes on prevention, because I think we're gonna spend more time talking about prevention in or next webinar in October. - [Voiceover] Right. - [Voiceover] And right now our focus is on the data that we have to share for you that's got some basic information and we wanna bring you up-to-date on a few things, and we wanna kinda get you excited about some cases that we have been involved with because both of us have had 23 years of experience as Marriage and Family Therapists and Addiction Counselors, we hope that you will either send your questions or include your thoughts that you wanna hear more of as you're listening to us so that we can answer your questions. And you probably already know that there's gonna be some polling questions.
That's when you have to make sure that you're alert and you respond to the poll in a short period of time. So Jeanyne, if you would like to put up polling question number one. Watch your screen. And while you guys are answering that, we'll give you a couple more seconds, 30-ish to take a look at what all the options are and I see we've got some people that are other and I thought I had thought of just about everything so if you who are in the other category would type us a little message in the chat bar on your left so that we can see what other kinds of people we have listening to our webinars today, we would like to know, so about 2/3rds of us are Counselors, one Therapist, one Social Worker, one Clinical Director, one Administrator, one Intern and three people who are other. If you could publish the results, if you haven't already, Jeanyne, so we can see that, so I see that there are some Prevention people, awesome! I really appreciate that the Prevention Specialists are here as well and I hope that the information that we... helpful and you will wanna come to the next one and attend that in October as well. And let's see, I'm gonna turn the time over to Denise E. - [Voiceover] Hi, this is Denise again, Denise E. actually. And one of the things I wanted to do is just start with some very basic definitions of addiction and the reason I wanted to do this is because no matter where you look at the definition of addiction, the one theme that's consistent through everything, if you look at the first one, repetitive behaviors in the face of negative consequences, the desire to continue something you know is bad for you, and that's from NIDA. The next one talks about adverse consequences, the third one talks about adverse consequences, then we have negative consequences again, so the idea is that there has to be consequences for the behavior, there's some sort of impairment going on with either ingesting a chemical of some kind or with the process addictions, with the behaviors, so that in our case today, that would be, we're focusing on gambling and gaming, so I just wanted to make sure that we were looking at a variety of definitions so we could just have a basic understanding and even number five talking about compulsive gambling, which is also called gambling disorder, is the uncontrollable urge to keep gambling despite the toll it takes on your life. So gambling means that you're willing to risk something you value in the hope of getting something of even greater value, so it doesn't even have to be money. Sometimes people will gamble with they'll gamble with their time, they'll gamble with their... - [Voiceover] Well, I know in jail, they gamble with their food and their stamps and things that are of value to them there.
